Membership in Maybrook Engine Company #1 is 100% volunteer. We are Mothers, Fathers, Brothers and Sisters from various trades, with various skills who live in and around the Village of Maybrook. Each one of us contributes in our own unique ways.
As individuals we can only accomplish so much but as many, we can accomplish so much more. That is why our tag line is ‘Neighbors helping neighbors since 1914,’ and we would love to add you to our ranks as an Interior Firefighter, Exterior Firefighter, Fire Police Officer, an Auxiliary member or a Junior Member (Ages 16 & 17).
Our department does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, national origin, age, or sex and opportunities within the organization are equally available to those who are willing.
A physical is required annually and paid for by the fire district at their contracted physician.

What are the benefits of joining the fire department?
Benefits are numerous. Here we list the primary benefits members enjoy.
What kind of things do you do in the fire department?
Our volunteers take part in various types of activities. For that reason we have established different titles base on what a member chooses to do and is capable of doing. They are as follow;
We also participate in community events, occasionally host our own events and participate in parades so there is plenty of entertainment throughout the year.
Please note, the titles list above are not the equivalent to ranks within the department.
Firefighting is dangerous. Are there other things to do within the department?
Yes.
Firefighting is is NOT limited to running into burning buildings. In fact, not everyone is suited for, nor qualified to do so. There are other jobs within the fire department. That why we have different types of members who are trained in various aspects of emergency services.
Every department needs people within their ranks to provide support in and around an incident, so we welcome all.
Do I need to have certain skills to become a volunteer firefighter?
No.
We provide all the training needed to become an active member in various roles within the department. We accept people with various skills and physical capabilities. You just need to come in with the willingness to help get the job done.
What are the Physical/Medical Conditions that I must meet?
Volunteering in the emergency service industry can be physically demanding over short and prolonged periods of time. While there currently is no physical or agility test to become a member, those participating at fire/rescue scenes, training exercises, drills, and performing other non-emergency duties, should be physically fit to the degree that they are able to perform the tasks necessary without creating a considerable life safety burden to themselves, fellow members or the public to which we serve.
What are the qualifications needed to become a member?
You must be at least 16 years of age, be willing to learn and willing to volunteer as a first responder to emergency calls.
Once accepted into the ranks, to maintain active membership you must participate in a percentage of calls, membership meeting and drills.
