Engine Ops Training

Today’s training session, led by our training officers, Lieutenants Lido Aviles and Mike Soto was the culmination of the various drills held through out the month of January. The goal was to hit the hydrant, stretch the lines, charge the lines and be ready for entry within 90 seconds.

Each weeks drill consisted of specific jobs for an engine company with members training on the various roles including but not limited to size up, proper radio communications, how best to approach a scene, hitting the hydrant, deploying lines, making the initial push into the facility and shutting down roadways with the Fire Police.

Today, with our partners from Campbell Hall we put it all together with a mock structure fire.

Knowing your district is critical in understanding how one can approach a scene so started with a table top review of the entire evolution. Followed by full deployment of various teams as if we were going to a structure fire. Ending with an after action report on how we preformed and addressing any issues encountered.

These conversations along with regular drills have lead to stream lining our workflow allowing us to be more efficient on scene. So much so that we were able run today’s mock up and be ready the make a push in less than 90 seconds.

Today we put in the work to be better prepared and had a great time doing it. Everyone participating did a great job.

We are looking forward to next months drills focusing on various rolls and responsibilities for the truckies followed by an evolution that puts it all together.
